Poetry n Motion - People's Choice Poetry Slam!

Thank you very much for requesting more information about the People's Choice Poetry Slam.
This competition is a great way for you to get more exposure to a broader audience and possibly win some
great prizes during the process.

Judged by an audience of your peers, this competition is For the People & by the People.
Below are the key guidelines for 2007. After reviewing them click here to enter.

Personal Commitment:

- Contestants must compete in 1 of the 3 heats  (April 29th │May 27th │June 24th)
- Contestants must be available to compete in the July 29th Semi-Finals and the August 26th Finals if they were to advance.
 

Cost:

 - Contestants will be given free entry throughout the duration of the slam (regardless of whether they are performing at a particular event).
- All guests should log onto www.ukfridays.com to join the discount guest list or purchase advance discount tickets.
- Most of the proceeds go towards supporting the band and the overall night. Hence we ask that all guest regardless of their relationship with the artist take advantage of the discount guest list or tickets.
 

Locations:

- Feb 25, Mar 25 & April 29th @ Motion Bar (next to Embankment tube)
- April 8 & May 27th @ Tiger Tiger (near Piccadilly Circus tube)
 

Competition Structure:


3 Heats (April 29th │May 27th │June 24th)

- No more than 5 different contestants per heat
- 2 contestants from each heat will advance on to the April 29th semi-finals

The Semi-Finals: (July 29th)

- 3 out of the 6 semi-finalist will advance into the August 26th finals

The Finals: (August 26th)

- Golden Mic awarded to the 2007 People Choice Poetry Slam Winner!
 

Performance Guidelines:

- Solo performances only
- Contestants will be allowed to perform 1 piece no longer than 3 minutes
- Hybrid poems with some vocals are allowed (vocals must be shorter than poem)
- Instrumental backing tracks are allowed (instrumental only)
- The band can "jam" with contestants if requested
- All performances must be done by memory. Contestants are not allowed to read any material while onstage.
 

Prizes:

- All 3 finalist will receive a very modest gift bag from our sponsors.
- The winners will receive monetary compensation of £500!
 

Judging Criteria:

- 10 randomly selected audience members on the night
- They will be asked to rank the contestants based on the below criteria
    - Creativity
    - Deliverance
    - Entertainment value
    - Enunciation and
    - Charisma.
